In this innings, Butler also equaled Virat Kohli’s record of scoring four centuries in a season. Virat can also break this record in the final against Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
Kohli scored 973 runs in 2016 with four centuries and 7 half-centuries. This is the highest score made by any player in a season in IPL. Butler has also scored 824 runs in 16 matches of this season at an average of 58.86. His strike rate stood at 151.47. During this, he has scored four centuries and as many half-centuries.
Butler confirms Orange Cup
Butler has secured the Orange Cup by scoring 824 runs in this season. The second, third and fourth ranked players are far behind them and their teams have been out of the IPL. KL Rahul is second after Butler with 616 runs. His team Lucknow Giants is out of IPL. Similarly, Quinton de Kock is also from Lucknow Giants at number three. He has scored 508 runs.
Shikhar Dhawan is at number four with 460 runs. Dhawan’s team could not even reach the Punjab Kings play-off. Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya is in fifth place. His team has reached the final and has only one match to play. Hardik has scored 453 runs in 14 matches. It’s hard to overtake him butler.
Butler’s aggressive style was first shown against Siraj
Butler made his intentions clear by hitting a four against Siraj in the first over of the innings. In the second over, Josh Hazlewood was also hit for a four by Butler. Butler batted vigorously against Siraj in the third over. In this over, Buttler hit two consecutive fours and then a long six.
