Scientists warn – due to climate change, changes will have to be made in the calendar of crops, otherwise…!

Due to climate change, the crop calendar will also have to be changed! According to scientists, by 2080, due to the change in climate, there will be a large-scale change in the weather. With the increase in heat and decrease in cold, the sudden rains will have a great effect on the crop.

New Delhi, Vivek Tiwari. Changes in weather patterns are being observed across the country due to climate change. It is also affecting the production of crops. Scientists from China and Europe have found in a study that there is a need to change the time of sowing and harvesting of crops to reduce the effect of climate change on wheat and rice yields mainly in India and Bangladesh. . There is also a need to change the crop calendar keeping in mind the change in the weather for all the crops.

According to a joint study by some scientists from China, Austria and Slovakia, published in the science research journal, Science Direct, there is a need to change the timing of sowing and harvesting of Kharif and Rabi crops keeping in mind the climate change. Early sowing of kharif crops, especially rice and rabi crops, will reduce the water requirement and increase production. On the other hand, keeping some time gap between Kharif and Rabi crops will minimize the impact of changing weather on the crops.

Benefit from early sowing of crops

According to the report, changing the crop calendar can be a better step to avoid loss of crop yield and reduce water use in the changing climate. Scientists used a regionally calibrated Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) agronomy model to better understand the impact of climate change on wheat and rice yields as well as tropical multi-cropping systems in India and Bangladesh, and to forecast better prospects . Scientists have found that by changing the time of sowing of crops, the effects of climate change can be reduced.

The effect of heat wave can be avoided

According to the report, if the wheat crop is planted ahead of time, later it will be saved from the effects of heat wave and extremely hot winds. Wheat grains turn yellow and dry due to strong hot winds, which affects the production. Also, early sowing of rice during Kharif can help in utilizing the monsoon rains. At the same time, during flowering in the paddy crop, frost can also be saved.

Scientists are working on many aspects

According to scientists, by 2080, due to the change in climate, there will be a large-scale change in the weather. With the increase in heat and decrease in cold, the sudden rains will have a great effect on the crop. In such a situation, if the paddy crop is planted ahead of time in the Kharif season, it will get the benefit of monsoon rains. Scientist Shantanu Kumar of the Central Research Institute, ICAR, said that due to climate change, crop yields are being affected. Keeping in mind the change in weather, the agricultural institutions of the country are also issuing suggestions regarding changes in the time of sowing and harvesting of crops keeping in mind the local conditions. This is also very important keeping in mind the increasing heat, heavy rains and other weather changes. Agricultural scientists of the country are also developing many such crops, whose production will not be affected much due to excessive heat or changing weather.
