Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli made a big announcement on Thursday evening. Virat told people through his social media account that he has decided to leave the captaincy. Virat announced that Virat Kohli will step down from T20 games after the T20 Cricket World Cup but will continue to lead the ODI and Test teams. Now his wife and actress Anushka Sharma has also given her reaction to the husband’s decision.
First of all, let us tell you what Virat told people through his social media account – I am lucky that I was given a chance to not only represent India but also to captain the Indian cricket team. Thank you all for supporting me in this journey. It would not have been possible without my teammates, support staff, selection committee, coach, and every Indian who expressed confidence in me for victory.
Kohli further said that it is very important to understand the workload. 8 to 9 years in all three formats and the last 5 to 6 years of captaincy were very challenging. So, I want to give myself some time so that I can lead the ODIs and Tests. I have given my everything during T20 captaincy.
Now I want to grow as a batsman. No doubt it took a long time to reach this decision. After long discussions and consultations with my people, Ravi Bhai and Rohit Sharma (who were an important part of the leadership group), I have decided to step down from captaincy after the T20 World Cup in Dubai in October.
In the end, Virat wrote- ‘I have also spoken to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and Sourav Ganguly about this. I will always be ready to serve the Indian cricket team. Virat Kohli started trending on social media as soon as this news was announced. While many people supported Virat’s decision, some people also felt sad about it. But amidst all this, the most important person in Virat’s life, his wife Anushka Sharma has also supported the husband’s decision through her social media account.
